Our natural environment is something that we must forever take care of, treasure and respect. Unfortunately, we only have one planet, one earth, one environment and if we ruin it, we risk destroying it forever and causing irreversible damage that will be devastating for us and our generation but even more so for the future generations that haven't had a chance to live, experience and enjoy what we have.

There are many things that each and everyone of us can to do help protect our environment and reduce the impact that our life styles and way of living has on the environment. If we each do our bit for the environment, no matter how small, we can create a positive reversal on negative impact. By becoming more environmentally aware and through reducing each of our own carbon footprints, we can minimise the detrimental effect we have on our world.

This project is a combined effort of macro skills (Speaking, Listening, Study Skills and Reading). Student were asked to gather some information first by research, reading and participation in class activities before making a firm selection on one topic. Students are also asked to design individual sections of a poster that can be quickly read - also usinf photographs, drawings and graphs to emphasise their message. Designing a poster was done with a partner.

Sometimes, a biography describes a person's life from birth to death. At other times, the writer concentrates on a particular period in a person's life. We will be reading biographies of famous Australians and other people. We will practise completing a time line, making notes of key points as events, turning points, achievements.

Legal System

The law affects almost everything you do and in each situations, the law is there to protect you. We will be learning about the legal system that consists of a number of institutions such as parliaments, courts and prisons. In this unit we will cover the court structure - hierarchy, juries, making laws, rights, responsibilities and protection undrer the law.

OBESITY IN CHILDREN

We have started the topic Health and we will cover the health system in Australia. The focus will be on Obesity as a problem all around the world. You will be exposed to different text types such as graphic texts and research reports aimed for general audience.

Task: Read the fact sheet about Obesity in Children and answer the following questions in your blogs:

The following couple of weeks we will focus on the topic Environment and you will be exposed to reading and listening texts about Alternative Energy Resources (adgantages & disadvantages), Carbon Footprint - how to reduce it and Global Warming (causes and consequences). This will help you with your Environmental Project.
